Are You a Thermometer or a Thermostat?

A thermometer is controlled by the environment (temperature) around it.
A thermostat is set to maintain the temperature you desire.
Too many athletes operate as thermometers in the heat of competition. The outside noise and environment dictates how your feel, respond, and perform.
The best athletes are like thermostats. They control their temperature (how they feel, respond, and perform) regardless of what is going on around them.
When pressure comes, are you more like a thermometer or a thermostat?
What is one specific way that you can control your "temperature" during competition?
