Winning the Identity Battle
If you don't keep your identity in check it will naturally drift toward centering on being a football player, hockey player, baseball player, soccer player, golfer, etc.
Problems arise when we aren't succeeding in our sport. Our identity takes a big hit, making it easy to feel like a failure when things aren't going well.
How we see ourselves determines how we respond to adversity.
I would challenge you to shift your athletic identity to being a competitor.
Competing does not mean trying hard. Being a competitor means you're hungry to dominate whatever challenge is currently in front of you.
What a Competitor Looks Like:
-Competes in the weight room
-Competes in practice
-Has a plan
-Trusts the process
-Loves challenges
-Embraces uncertainty
-Makes adjustments
-No ego
-Controls emotions
-Team-first mentality
When your identity is wrapped up in your results, your self belief/confidence naturally rides a roller coaster.
To be consistent and unshakeable, start seeing yourself as a Competitor.
Compete well this week.
