Fear is a Liar

fearisaliar.png

Fear is not nearly as complicated as we try to make it.

A simple and useful definition of fear is: An anxious feeling, caused by our anticipation of some imagined event or experience.

Fear is the single biggest distraction in the mental game because it instantly removes us from the present moment.

Fear is a liar because it causes our minds to interpret basic information in a flawed way.

When we let go of our notion of fear as the welling up of undefinable evil forces within us and begin to see fear as nothing more than information that is being distorted, we can think about fear consciously...

And the more clearly and calmly we can articulate the origins of the fear, the less our fears will frighten us, lie to us, and ultimately control us.

Fear of damage to your ego is ground zero for fear; this is the epicenter.

This is simple: to minimize fear rooted in your ego, LOSE THE EGO.

Ego is defined as your perceived self-worth in comparison to others.

As long as you think your life is more valuable than someone else’s because of your accomplishments, you will be controlled by fear because you can’t stand the thought of being on the same level as other people.

The best weapon against ego is humility.  Practice it daily.  When you lose the ego, you lose the fear.

To reduce fear that is rooted in the “loss of control”, you must first acknowledge that the only thing in this world that we have total control over is our mental game.

With this truth in mind, it would only make sense that we should develop our mental game so that it becomes our most valued weapon.

When this happens, you will no longer fear the uncontrollable aspects of life because you will know that you can compete through any situation that you encounter.

There will be no need to control the uncontrollables.

To reduce fear rooted in what others might think of you, develop yourself as a complete person so that one aspect of your life does not completely define you as a person.

You must be more than just an athlete. Take pride in your family, your education, and your character just as you do your career.

When sports are all that you have, fear can control you more easily.

Are you letting fear control you, or are you controlling your fear?

If you are letting fear control aspects of your career, what is that fear based on?
